Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville welcomed Tennessee’s first set of surviving quintuplets Wednesday, January 14, 2004.

Willem and Shannon van Tol of West Knoxville became the proud parents of, Willem Scott (born at 12:22 p.m., 4 lbs. 0 oz.), Sean Conner (born at 12:23 p.m., 3 lbs. 11.4 oz.), Isabella Marie (born at 12:23 p.m., 3 lbs. 4.6 oz.), Ashley Faith (born at 12:24 p.m., 2 lbs. 9.8 oz.) and Meghan Ann (born at 12:24 p.m., 2 lbs. 8.8 oz.).

The quintuplets were delivered by Perinatologists Dr. Perry Roussis and Dr. Gary Stephens of the Fort Sanders Perinatal Center. Perinatologists specialize in the care of high-risk pregnancies.
Mrs. van Tol was in labor for 26 minutes. Twenty-seven physicians, nurses, therapists and technologists participated in the delivery.

Married nine years. Mrs. van Tol is a lawyer, and her husband is a software engineer both were grateful to their employers for giving them plenty of parental leave.
