Ferrante Quintuplets - December 27, 2008
Jamie and Kevin Ferrante of Grant City became first-time parents early Saturday morning, December 27th, at 1:30 a.m. when Mrs. Ferrante gave birth to quintuplets in a matter of six minutes flat,
It was a first for Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, its first-ever delivery of quintuplets.
The children, in order of birth are: Allesia Louise, 2 pounds; Amanda Frances, 1 pound, 8 ounces; Emily Ann, 2 pounds, 1 ounce; Matthew Sabatino, 2 pounds, 4 1/2 ounces; and Ella Lilliana, 1 pound, 15 1/2 ounces.
Mrs. Ferrante said she used fertility treatment and the babies were delivered by Caesarean section.
Mrs. Ferrante was 27 weeks pregnant at the time of the births and she had been in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit since Dec. 1.
The quintuplets may come home in late February or early March, said Mrs. Ferrante.
Family and friends have supplied her with five cribs and car seats, however, she'll likely need a new family vehicle considering all five car seats won't fit in her Pontiac Bonneville.
