On December 9, 1999 Pam Deschler discovered she was pregnant with quadruplets.

Both Pam and her husband Lee understood the risks involved with a multiple birth so they sought help from the Phoenix Perinatal Associates, in Phoenix Arizona, which is known to have the most experience and highest success rates for multiple birth deliveries in America.
Although Pams doctors suggested selective reduction, she and her husband decided against it.

They have had about 600 successful deliveries of multiples, 50 deliveries have been quads.

Through their experience, they have been able to develop techniques which help to prolong the delivery and maximize the outcome.

Their average gestation period for quads is 32.5 weeks (3% handicapped), compared to the 29 week (25% handicapped) average at other hospitals.

On the home front, Pam and Lee had set themselves up with a high top conversion van and a used quad stroller. They had been given four cribs and a baby shower at week 17 provided them with some initial baby goods needed when they all returned home.

On May 19, 2000, at week 32 and 5 days, and at 5:05 pm, Christopher Lee Deschler was born, weighing 4 pounds 12 ounces and measuring 17.3 inches. He was followed by his sister, at 5:06 pm, Alyssa Lee Deschler who weighed 3 pounds 11 ounces and was 18.1 inches. Then came Emily Lee Deschler weighing 3 pounds 2 oz. and measuring 16.9 inches. Last but not least, at 5:08 pm, came Nicholas Lee Deschler weighing 3 pounds 3.6 ounces and measuring 17.3 inches long.
