Doctors in Bangkok have successfully separated 8 month old twin girls that were born joined from their chest to abdomen.
The girls, Panwad and Pantawan Tiyenjai, were born with the upper chambers, or atriums, of their hearts connected, one pumping blood to the other.
Somchai Sriyoschati, a doctor who took part in the operation on February 20, 2007, reported that 61 doctors and nurses took part in the 12 hour surgery that left both girls in good condition though one has a slight heart defect that can be repaired when she gets older.
