Downton Twins - Oldest Living Twins

Twins From North Bay, Ontario, Turn 89 On June 26, 2007

It is believed that the oldest living twins in Ontario are living in North Bay, Ontario.

Identical twin sisters Ivah Rose and Islah Downton were born not far from Nipissing Manor in East Ferris where they now reside, and are both spry for their age.

Islah lived in Washington, D.C for nearly 40 years with her husband while Ivah spent much of her adult life at Cassells and Duke streets on an acre of land she and her husband bought for only $300.

Rose, who's allergic to alcohol credits that with her longevity. She and her sister are just happy to see another year, and celebrate it with family and friends.

According to the sisters, being Ontarios' oldest twins doesn't mean much to them but Lara Neroutsos, Nipis-sing Manor's activity director, thinks the sisters are being modest. She said the title means something to them and that is why Neroutsos was happy to organize a special party for them.

According to Neroutsos, Ivahs' been talking about it all week, and "That was my reason for the party, just to make it extra special for them."

The area is no stranger to celebrity births. The Dionne Quintuplets captured the hearts of the world during the Great Depression.

Neroutsos said both sisters have sharp wits, are fun-loving and are usually game for anything. Ivah, in particular, loves to pick strawberries and swim, "if only they'd let me," she said.

The world's oldest twins, who turned 105 earlier this year, live in Winnipeg.
