David and Kate Brooks increased the size of their family by five on October 10, 2006. The lucky couple from Fairway, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, became the proud parents of quintuplets.
The quintuplets were delivered by Cesarean-section at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.
New momma Kate, 35, spent a month in the hospital before going into labor at 28 weeks' gestation, full-term pregnancy is about 40 weeks.
More than a dozen doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and respiratory specialists were present for the delivery.
Emily Jayne arrived first, followed by Owen David, Jesse (pronounced Jess) William, Ruth Elizabeth and Helen Marie.
Weights for the new bundles of joy ranged from 2 pounds, 2 ounces to 2 pounds, 8 ounces. Four were 14 inches long, and one was 14 3/4 inches long.
The main concern of the doctors are the babies respiratory systems as babies born so early often suffer lung problems.
